Tretton was one of the angels. He had saved hundreds to thousands of people in need. Over time, he grew tired of his duty. On the other side, Egale was one of the demons. She enjoyed creating temptations but also regretted a number of souls that she had taken over centuries.
Although he never admitted it, Tretton liked Egale because she was the only one that didn't say yes to him. He said to her.
"Humans are just a species of the low hierarchy. We make the rules and they obey. They are too emotional to rationalize and always in need of saving, especially from you because you can manipulate their emotions."
Egale replied. "We control neither their emotions nor their free will. You say you make the rules but what makes it right? There's no you without us. People can feel but it's their choice to act on it."
"They don't know what's good for them so we have to decide for them. That's why they always need saving. Just like you females, you're too tedious to see the big picture."
"They don't need your saving. They only hope for your help to find their meaning in life. We females are just as capable of seeing the grand scheme as you are. We're equally powerful and talented; you just refuse to accept that fact."
Tretton laughed. "There's no such thing to accept. And you can't tempt me to agree."
Egale smiled. "I don't bother to tempt you unless you want me to."
Tretton said. "Demon has no effect on angel."
Egale kissed him.
"Unless said angel is willing."
Egale dematerialized and God punished Tretton. "Tretton, you have sinned one of the seven deadly sins, pride. You stop caring about people and you are tempted by a demon. Your punishment is to be torn apart by the monster Unge."
Tretton's wings were immediately burned and he was locked in a cage with the monster Unge.
Egale came to his cage. She transformed her horns into a big scythe and killed the monster Unge.
Tretton asked. "Why did you save me?"
Egale answered. "Because I like you. You've always been locked in your own cage, thinking we're inferior. You thought that we were useless and unable to make a decision. So I made the decision to free you of your own prison."
Lucifer appeared and brought them both to their knees. "Egale, you're not allowed to rescue a punished angel. You were about to be promoted to become an archdemon. But since you failed in taking an angel's soul and commintted the crime of freeing the fallen, you can't be a demon any more."
Lucifer made both Egale and Tretton human as a punishment.
Egale was born as the princess of the royal clan Wallace in Scotland. She met a servant named Tretton and fell in love with him. He was the only one respected her opinion and believed that she should reign instead of her cruel uncle.
Tretton helped her dethrone her cruel uncle and won the battle.
Egale became the queen of the clan Wallace and married Tretton. For the first time in history, they ruled the clan as equal partners. And they lived happily ever after.
In the end, they both lived up to their names. Tretton, as in Trettondagen, meaning "epiphany" in Swedish, realized the importance of women and that equal partnership was the best fulfilling happiness. And true to her name, Egale, as in Egalité, meaning "equality" in French, completed her enlightened mission.
