Brig: What did you say????
Alex: I'm not kidding, Jeff is leaving.
Brig: When? To where? Why?
Alex: Tomorrow night. He's moving to Xinera. For a girl.
Brig: And you just remember to tell me now? Who's the girl? I never heard him mention that before.
Alex: He met her online. Can you believe it? How many love stories can carry out in real life?
Brig: That's amazing. And I thought finding Dave across dimensions was rare already.
Alex: Yeah, unbelievable. He mentioned a few times before. But he just made a decision. I was so swamped with paperworks that I just remembered that tomorrow would be his last day.
Brig: You...*smacks her forehead*. We need to get something together fast. What does he like?
Alex: I don't know. What do you think we should give him?
Brig: ALEX! You know him better than I do. Besides, even if you don't know, what do guys like?
Alex: *Scratches his head* Maybe a blu-ray DVD player? Or maybe video game?
Brig: Play Station?
Alex: Yes, that works.
Brig: And how do you suppose we get a good deal on it now?
Brig: *sighs and takes out her cell phone to dial Nat and Marge for help* Now? You mean right now now?????!!!!!
Alex: What? What? What?
Brig: *snaps her cell phone close* Alex, we have to get to VideoCenter now if you want any hope of getting a PlayStation for half price. They're having a 50% off sale and there's a line!!!!
Alex: Okay, wrap up everything here. Tell Lucy to lock up. Come on!
Brig: You go ahead. I'll catch a cab. Get a spot in line! Go!!!
Alex runs out of the door. Brig stacks up the papers on her desk into a pile. She turns to her co-worker Lucy.
Brig: Lucy, we're going to get a Jeff something. Can you finish everything here and lock up?
Lucy: Of course, go! I won't let Jeff know anything is up. Go go! I get everything covered.
And Brig bumps into Jeff.
Jeff: Brig? What's the rush?
Brig: Uhm, family emergency! Sorry, gotta go, Jeff. *grins nervously and rushes off*
Jeff: *to Lucy*What's up with Brig and Alex? They're not in the same family. What's the odd that they both have family emergency at the same time?
Lucy: *chuckles nervously* They're best friends. You know that, maybe another friend has an emergency. So, what do you think of Mrs. Jones' blood sugar level?
By the time Brig gets to the store, there's already a long line from the entrance. Cursing, Brig calls Nat to go to the store close to her house and try to get in line and tells Marge to buy a cake. Alex is standing in the line with almost hundred people in front of him.
Brig exchanges a worry glance with Alex and runs off to get few video games. When she gets back, Alex still has at least twenty people ahead of him. Her phone buzzes.
Dave: *on the phone* Brig! Where are you? I've been waiting for you for hours!
Brig: Sorry!! I forgot about the time. Alex and I are standing in line at VideoCenter to get a PlayStation for Jeff.
Dave: What's PlayStation? Who's Jeff?
Brig: It's monitor to play video game. Jeff is the other doctor at my clinic and he's leaving tomorrow. We want to give him a parting gift. You go ahead and have dinner first, I'll be home later.
After what seems like forever, it's their turn to get the PlayStation. Unfortunately, the saleman announces that all the stock has been sold out.
Alex and Brig curse: Unbelievable!!!! We waited for nothing. What kind of business is this? Why did you let us waste our time when you didn't have enough stock?
Later, Nat calls Brig to tell the bad news of no PlayStation. Sighing, Brig and Alex buys some extra video games and a card. Exhausted, they head for home.
Dave opens the door for Brig before she can ring the bell. Brig pops her chicken pasta dish leftover from yesterday in the microwave and drops herself in the couch. Dave touches her face gently.
Brig: *sighs* What a waste of time! They were out of stock by our turn.
Dave: I'm sure Jeff appreciates your effort. Besides, you still have video games and cake and card to give him.
Brig: Not good enough. He shares half the work with Alex since they're the only two doctors in the clinic.
Dave: Sweetheart, you never think anything you do is good enough. But in fact, the people on the receiving end think you've done too much already. If Jeff is as smart as his title sounds, he'll be moved by how hard you tried.
Brig: *smiles tiredly* Thank you.
The microwave timer goes off. Dave takes out Brig's dish and replaces with his own.
Brig: You haven't eaten yet?
Dave: I have no appetite to eat without you, Brig.
Brig: *touches Dave's arm* Dave...
Dave turns and hugs Brig to him.
Dave: Even if I have to wait until midnight to have supper with you, I won't even feel starving. There's no joy without you.
Brig kisses Dave on her tip-toes. Her exhausting day doesn't turn out so bad after all.
Alex: *at home with his take-out hamburger* I won't ever go shopping on a big sale day again! It's fanatically crazy! Never, EVER!!!!!
